Books, Nothing But Useless.... Crap.

Post  Me Versus You on Wed Jan 04, 2012 6:29 am

"Ocho en punto." The middle school's football coach grumbled. Eight o'clock, exact. Thirty minutes until the first bell. Julio droned his way towards the school's library, hoping he'd find a book or two to waste time. The heavy steps he took echoed throughout the vacant hallways. He let go of a low raspy purr while rolling his head and shoulder blades. God, no better way to stretch and warm up. Something told him that today would be the longest of most.... No, he KNEW it would be longer than most. He had no tryouts, warm ups, or practices until the third bell. Plenty of time, really.

With a cheap plastic coffee mug in one hand and the other free, he entered the emptied library. His back arched into a curve, his purr changed into a growl, and his more relaxed stance became more aware and alert. Natural hunter stance. Damn. Oh, How this would have been much more embarrassing if his co-workers or any students were there to witness this. At least there was none that he was aware of. His only eye scanned the room, examining every inch of the room. Nobody. Nadie. He let free of a high pitched screech before feeling his free hand quickly cup over his mouth. His face flushed and burned with embarrassment, as if the whole school had heard him and his uncontrollable urge to screech as an infected.

Fuck. He was lucky.

A sigh escaped his lips before he relaxed himself. He reeled his hand back away from his mouth. The screech was still echoing throughout the room while he took quickly paced steps to one of the shelves labeled 'Sports' in bright red letters. The infected's claw traced over several of the books before pulling two labeled 'football'. He examined the two hard covers, reading through the introductions. "Garbage....Ey, How could someone believe this... Crap?" Julio snarled while placing the books back. Perhaps a dramatic novel of sorts would do him good.

With his free hand, he traced his rugged hands along the spirals of the assorted books. Not one of them caught his eye. "You'd think there'd be someone to help or recommend a book to ya' or something..." He sighed, while retreating to the only glossed-wood book check out desk in the center of the room. He turned his head from left to right, searching for a sign of somebody, anybody. As far as he knew, he was the only one in the room. Today was already becoming a drag.

Michael was trembling as he entered the library, his quickened heartbeat seemed to increase in volume and he could barely hear himself think. The boy's tired eyes darted quickly around the room to find the source of the screech. He then noticed the only one in the room and calmed down. "M-Maybe it was j-just me..." He mumbled to himself. The boy entered the library and hoped for his life that noise wouldn't shatter his sensitive eardrums again.

With the door pushed open, in came a taller, but scrawnier, figure. His hair brushed gently over his right eye, and he wore sweater seemed to be much too big for him. "Ey, huesos, are you the librarian or somethin'? 'Cause I need some help finding a novel!" He called in a snappy tone to the younger, and boney-er infected. Julio's patience shortened like a fuse. All these books were nothing to him, he didn't even understand WHY he bothered to come into the library in the first place.

Oh, right, sheer curiosity.

One of many things that got him his nickname, Gato. Nevertheless, that was a different story, and he'd been getting side tracked on anger. The hunters shoulders shifted to make him look more hunched, and his growl began to grow. "Kid, I got things to do, mind hurrying up and recommending a novel?" He remarked in a wise ass tone. Julio rolled his eye then watched Mikey's every move, hoping that he didn't ignore the hunter.

Olive watched from the glass door of the library seeing two young men standing near the checkout desk.

The taller one facing her way looked angry, as if he was about to punch the other right in the face for some reason. That would not be good on either hers’ or his behalf.

If something like that really happened this moment then she would be the one who will have to take care of it, being the school nurse and she had a sex-ed class in twenty minutes, barely enough time for her to check out a book on the zombie body let alone fix a concussion.

She didn't want to intervene in whatever was going on, but she had to go in there sooner or later and unfortunately Olive doesn't have later.

Taking a deep breath she pushed through the doors walking over to both men.

“Excuse me,” they flicked their gazes over to her and she recognized the frightened infected as the assistant librarian, Mikey, his face was extremely pale and Olive feared he might faint. The other who seemed to be the one harassing Mikey was fimiliar, yet she just couldn't place the name.

“Could you please help me find an anatomy book?” A gentle beam broke out at first, leading to her lips curling to show off a nice row of fangs. Her smile was her best feature and hopefully it was enough to distract anything from erupting between the two.

Since no one was coming at the library earlier that morning, Bart decided to go out and have some coffee to go. No one but the kid who doesn't seem to need a librarian's help was the only one present that morning. So no harm done... right..? Wrong. Because the moment Bart entered the prison of books, he encounters 3 people. Before barging into what seems to be an escalating fight, Bart analyzes the situation. I mean... you won't just enter a conversation without knowing what's going on, right? Right!

One seems to be the nurse, he has seen her before when he was applying for his job some time ago. She looks like she's trying to calm the situation.

The other one looks like the victim..... and he looks like the boy in the picture that the principal showed him before as his new library assistant... and he looks like he is being harassed..?

The third one seems to be the hotheaded type... but then again, analyzing the situation... he might just be looking for assistance, and his assistant is not capable of giving him such assistance.

The result of his conclusion... it's his fault for leaving the library unattended. Great.

Bart then enters the scene, looking composed, and refreshed. He holds a cup of coffee on his right hand, and the other holds a random book he picked up on his way towards the scene. The more he gets closer, the more he realizes who the people he is approaching is. Two Hunters, and a Common Infected. These three are the Sanguine, Melancholic, and the Choleric types who shouldn't engage in a conversation that leads to a problem. O well.

"Excuse me, Hi. I'm the new librarian here," He starts with a simple greeting, "You must be the Famous Football Coach and you must be the Nurse that I have heard of. Pleasure to meet you all in this fine morning." He looks at their faces, and then looks at the face of his new assistant, "And you must be my assistant in this place, thank you for looking after the library when I was gone to get some coffee." He whispers softly to his cute assistant, "I'll take it from here." He then looks at the hunters with a gentle smiles, "And now that I am here, how can I help the two of you in this fine morning?"

All that... because he got out for some coffee.

Thank god the librarian showed when he did; Olive wasn’t sure how this was going to end out.

With a long step back to allow the man to enter their group she returned his friendly smile. “Pleasure is all mine, now, I’m looking for a book on the human body. Do you know what shelf that would be on?” She asked politely while keeping a close eye on the football coach just to make sure he wasn’t going to try anything funny.

He didn’t look at all in control of his instincts and she wouldn’t want him pouncing on anyone.

A glance to the clock hanging over the desk told her she had less than 15 minutes. She had better hurry.

“Of course Miss?”

“Olive, Olive Gower.”

A large grin plastered his face and Olive admired how good he was at it, he could probably charm the pants off anyone. “Right, uh Mikey would you please show Miss Gower to shelf A-E section 14 please?” The common infected vigorously shook his head, glad to be escaping the scary man before him and rushed to the huntresses' side. "This way ma'am."

He led the nurse away from the two, yet Olive was a bit curious as to how this all happened in the first place. She thought to ask the boy, but something compelled her to stay out of their business.

Unfortunately curiosity is one of her virtues so she strained to listen in on the conversation of the other two. Maybe the librarian will have the right idea to ask the same question.

As she did so, Olive grinned at a funny thought.
For some reason she felt like she was in some sort of dramatic sope opera…

Mikey was almost entirely overwhelmed with everything, the bones in his arm and leg trembled and he collapsed to the floor. The boy apologized incesantly and picked up the fallen bones from his leg. his pallid face turned crimson as he made his next remark. "uh, c-can anyone p-please tell my where the restroom is?"

It seems that everything is going too fast... but at the same time smooth. Well, better moving than no progress at all. He looks at the football coach and smiles...again, must be something he thinks he should since he is new... and he doesn't want any problems. Bart then noticed the book he randomly took as he entered awhile ago. It's an adventure novel he is familiar with. And for some reason, he seems to have an idea why Gato is in the library.

"If I'm not mistaken, maybe you're here to get a book, something to take your mind off of things? I might just have something to recommend you then. Here's an adventure novel I have read plenty of times. I'm sure you might enjoy it." He hands over the book, as he notices someone looking his way, to see the nurse. Bart is simply flattered for a beautiful nurse to look his way, as he returns a flirtatious smile. Unintentionally... maybe..?

The sound of clattering bones dissolve his attention towards his cute assistant. "uh, c-can anyone p-please tell my where the restroom is?" Bart turns to Mikey, as he helps him out with his collapsing bones. "Why won't I take you there?" He responds softly, "We have one inside the library for employees, come~" He takes his hand and leads him towards a pile of books, grabs a random one, and a secret door is revealed. "Here you go!" He looks back once more towards the shaky Mikey, "I can go inside with you if you want~" He ends with a smile.....again. Man he smiles a lot.

It only come to his attention that his invitation might have meant something else. Going inside the same cubicle might sound like an invitation of something else. Bart never has such ill intentions... he actually thought of Mikey like his little brother who needs a companion when he's afraid to go to the toilet alone.

..........................He still sounds gay though.....

Mikey's pallid face turned red once again. "I-it's okay. i-i can h-handle it, i've reconstructed my bones b-before." He went into the restroom and quickly locked the door before anyone could come inside. the boy sighed at the feeling of solitude and started reconstructing his bone structure in his leg again, the occasional painful grunt escaping his lips. he was used to this sort of pain, having done this before, but it was still hurting him nonetheless. when he had finished, he unlocked the door and stepped back out. "I'm so sorry sir." He apologized to Bart. "A-And I also forgot to ask y-your name...."

The poor kid…Olive should probably go see if he needs any help. It’s not really considered healthy to have your bones toppling all over. Another glance over to the clock for a time check and she inwardly cursed for doing so; five minutes till her class starts.

Fuck. Can't help him now.

Olive swiftly turned her back on the drama occurring to the mountain of colorful books.

If an apprehensive assistant can find a single book in this mammoth pile then so can she, ugh what did that librarian say before…shelf A-E section 14 or something?

Olive scurried around, reading laminated labels for the appropriate title. This had to be the only reason why she never liked the library. Not once in her entire life could she find a book in this god-forsaken place. She would have growled if there weren’t anyone else around to hear her.

Still shuffling through hard covers Olive neglected to notice someone approach her. Not until she felt a light tap on the shoulder. Her nerves were shot already and she almost jumped out of her skin when the sudden contact touched her. The violent flinch had caused her to fall from her crouching position and onto her bottom knocking back on one of the lower shelves in a short yelp.

This just wasn’t her day…

Mikey jumped back himself in reaction to her scream. "I-I'm so sorry Miss!" He apologized almost insecantly before asking. "D-Did you need my help? I-I am the assistant....i-it;s kind of what I d-do..." The blush seemed to remain on his face, burning with embarrasment of his paranoia. The right sleeve of his sweater even started dropping and revealing the part of his arm the breaks off of skin and turns into bones.

Today wasn't going to be the best for the poor Infected.

"You said you needed to find a book r-right? W-which one?" He immediately got down on his knees and started searching through the immense mountain of books that lay before him.

She just sat and stared at the assistant fiddling around with the books, her mind soon started functioning what he had asked and with a kind smile she replied. “An anatomy book…also I want to take a look at that arm and anything else that is falling apart afterwards okay young man, I might have just the remedy for that.” Olive hopped back to her knees in order to help him in his search.

Still a little concerned about her time limit but rushing wouldn’t be the best thing at the moment.

He nodded shyly not bothering to glance over to the nurse and Olive placed on the tiniest simper, she swished her head slightly just enough for her hair to fall over and hide it from timid little Mikey.

He wasn’t that bad at all. Well Olive isn’t the type to judge a book by its cover but when she first saw him the first word to describe him the best would have to be a ‘coward’ of course that was then and this is now. Mikey is not a coward anymore to her, instead he seems like a shy puppy among scary dogs.

This act won’t last forever once he gets to know the co-workers outside of the library.

A conversation would be nice right about now. She won't let him stay in awkward silence all day.

He didn’t look as if he were about to start chatting so Olive began to speak.

“So tell me a little more about yourself Mikey, how and why did you want to become a librarian?”

cocking her head to the side and brushing any stray strands of hair from her line of vision she beamed at him happily, hopefully breaking the ice.

His expression was hesitant and thoughtful as he stared off into space. His mouth opened sucking in a breath of air about to talk but was interrupted by a loud clanking and crackling. Olive quickly shot her gaze over to the source to find…

Mikey was digging through to books to find what she asked for and timidly replied. "I-I thought it would b-be a job that both is enjoyable and w-will help support my m-mother and I..." He picked up a book that seemed fitting for the nurse. "Is this book okay Miss?" He held it out for her too see, his hands trembling and the right sleeve of his overlarge sweater covering up his skeletal right hand. He gasped at the sudden clanking noise and dropped the book. "Wh-what's going on?" He muttered to himself in his usual way. "It was nothing Micheal, get back to helping her."
"But what if it was something?" His coal black eyes looked back up at the nurse and he covered his mouth, his face burning red.

“What if something is wrong?”

“Hmm what was that?”

When Olive turned back around to face Mikey he had his hand clamping over his mouth and his face was flushed a deep red. What was he embarrassed about? She looked down in his other hand seeing the book she had been looking for and flashed a toothy grin. “Ah thank you so much! I probably would have never found this on my own.” He still remained in place. “Haha I’m sure you think I’m pretty dumb for not knowing how to track a simple book.” She laughed openly not really caring if anyone else in the library can hear her. Mikey’s eyes widened like saucer plates and he rapidly shook his head.

“NO!”

“Mom?”

“Evan?”

Olive snapped over to a little Jockey standing behind Mikey, he seemed very confused in fact both boys looked questionable. “What are you doing out of class sweat-heart?” Olive asked hopping from the ground. “I could ask the same for you.” The zombie known as Evan stared down at Mikey, who again had a woozy expression. “Who is this?” Olive smiled towards her son and held a hand out to her new friend. “This is Mikey, the library assistant. Mikey this is my son Evan.”

Taking her help Olive hauled the zombie to his feet just now noticing how tall he really was for a kid and then went back to her son. “Anyways why are you here.” Evan frowned and lowered his gaze for he knew his mother won’t like his explanation at all. He mumbled under his breath, to quiet for Olive to hear but apparently Mikey heard it perfectly. “Mr. Jones sent you…to find Miss Gower?” Evan smacked himself, preparing for the lecture of a lifetime. He knew that Olive despised Mr. Jones and tries not to get too involved in whatever he has planned; it’s bad enough that she has to teach his class about the Zombie body and diseases that come along with it.

“He told me to tell you to hurry up…” He could see it already burning in her eyes, all the rage and furry bubbling with in. Though her face kept its cool. “Really,” (here we go) “Well Evan dear please tell Mr. Jones that I humbly apologize for the delay and that we might have to postpone my lecture today and set it for tomorrow, okay?” Nodding as if nothing was out of the ordinary Evan strutted off with a sloppy wave to Mikey.

Her swift movement caused Mikey to flinch slightly and she was now holding his boney wrist. “Now that we have time, how about we get those bones fixed?” Olive chirped while heading towards the check-out desk.

Mikey nodded in a shaky way. "Th-Thank you....y-you're very kind..." He straightened the wrist on his right arm promptly. "B-But I don't want you to be late, you don't have to worry, I-I can fix my bones myself. Th-They only fall apart when I get really scared...." His face was still burning and he tried to keep a strong composure. He then realized his sweater was faling off his shoulder, revealing where broken skin led off to bone and promptly pulled it back over his shoulder.

Narrowing her eyes Olive smirked. “It’s a bit late for that now come with me to the clinic.” She was already walking to the door before Mikey could come up with any excuse not to follow her and she waited by the entrance holding it open for him. “Come on, ya won’t need to worry about your bones falling off once I’m done with you.” Olive enthusiastically skipped forward after Mikey shuffled very, very slowly out of the library.

It was...... short and brief.

Mikey declined his kind offer to assist him inside the bathroom, and little assistant gets out, asks for his name... and then disappears before he answered. It was because of the nurse who needed some assistance. And his good reliable Aide was quick on his feet when it comes to his job. He should give the guy an early bonus! ...if he had the authority. Bart watches the two from afar, checking if ever his assistance would be needed.

There was a couple of opportunities, but Mikey handled it like no other. The kid, was good.

He follows them from a distance as they leave the library. It seems that the nice looking nurse is also nice on the inside! He chuckles as they leave, thinking that the two of them can be such a cute pair.

Bart then looks at his watch to see that his morning duties are done. And all he had to do was give instruction, try and help a kid who doesn't need any help... and then meeting his new assistant. The principal did tell Bart that he can leave early, since it's the first day of school, and that it's a high possibility that the librarian won't be needed as much.

So we that, he leaves the library... THE LIBRARIAN IS OUT.
